BLAST search with query sequence

Searching with blast

The search form below allows you to enter a single DNA sequence for comparison to sequences held in the westDB database. The sequence you enter must be bare text; that is, just C's, A's, T's and G's plus any ambiguity codes. Spaces, line breaks, numbers, and any other non-letter characters will be removed automatically (you will be warned if any are submitted). Scroll bars will appear on the input box if your sequence is larger than the visible area; there is a 32 Kb size limit (the size limit for web input). You should not have a fasta header line at the top of the sequence, as this may cause the search to fail. You can type a sequence in to the box by hand, but it's probably easier to use copy and paste (just click in the box then do EDIT PASTE from your browser menu, or simply use ctrl+v). When your sequence is in the box, click on the 'SUBMIT' button to launch a search. The results page will either tell you there were no matches, or display a summary table plus all alignments. More help is available on that page.

Hint

If you want to try this out, but you don't have a sequence handy, go to the string search page, type wheat in the query box, and click on a link to get a sequence which you can copy and paste in to this form.
